Understanding EVs

Which EV Is Right for Me?

Battery Electric

Fully electric vehicles don’t have gas engines; they rely solely on battery power. Because they don’t have an engine, you won’t have to pay any fuel costs, and you’ll save significantly on service and maintenance.

Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV)

PHEVs combine a gas engine and a battery-powered electric motor to improve fuel economy. PHEVs offer more electric driving range than standard hybrids, so if you want an option with more electric range, consider a PHEV.

Standard Hybrid

Standard hybrid vehicles also combine a gas engine and a battery-powered electric motor, but unlike PHEVs, standard hybrid vehicles self-charge as they drive with help from the gas engine. Because of this, standard hybrids don’t have to be plugged into a charging station if the battery levels run low.

Benefits of Plugging In

Federal Tax Credit

Federal Tax Credit

In previous years, many EVs qualified for federal tax rebates of up to $7,500. The specific rebate an EV could
qualify for depends on the type of EV it is and where it’s located. Check with your local dealers in the
Port Washington area.

Local Incentives

Along with the rebates mentioned above, you can earn even more incentives through your utility company. Check
with your utility company to see what kinds of incentives you can qualify for.

Low Ownership Cost

Because an EV doesn’t have a combustion engine, they don’t require nearly as much service and maintenance as a
traditional gas-powered vehicle. No engine means no more oil changes or other common repairs that a gas-powered
vehicle needs. According to many consumer reports, drivers can save up to half in service costs when they switch
from a gas-powered vehicle to an EV.

Charge At Home

There are several ways to charge an EV, including at-home charging. This allows you to keep your EV charged
overnight so that by morning, it’s ready to hit the roads of Roslyn!

Smooth & Quiet Ride

No combustion engine means no more loud noises when you drive, and you can enjoy smoother acceleration and an
overall smoother ride than most gas-powered vehicles offer.

Best of Both Worlds

Hybrids and PHEVs combine gas and electric power, giving you the ability to drive on gas power for longer trips
and switch to electric power for daily errands around Manhasset.

96%

Of the EV owners surveyed said they’d purchase another EV as their next vehicle, according to AAA.

Different EV Charging Methods

Luckily, there are plenty of options when it comes to keeping your EV charged.

Level 1: This can be done with any standard 110-volt outlet. At 2–5 miles per hour of charge, this method is the slowest available charging method, but it’s great if you want to plug in your EV overnight.

Level 2: This method gives you a faster charging time than Level 1, giving you about 10–20 miles of range per hour of charging. This requires a 240-volt outlet and needs to be installed by a professional electrician.

Level 3: This is the fastest charging method, and most Level 3 chargers can fully charge your EV in under an hour. You can find Level 3 charging stations in most public places, like libraries and grocery stores.

Charging Your EV at Home

Level 1 and Level 2 charging can be done from your home or garage. Any house or garage with a standard 110-volt outlet can achieve Level 1 charging. As we mentioned earlier, a Level 2 charging station will need to be installed by an electrician, but this way, you can still charge your EV from home.

EV Battery Care

Many EV batteries usually last anywhere from 100,000-200,000 miles, depending on the specific model you drive. It’s important to remember that your battery will have to work harder in extreme weather conditions, so be sure to keep your battery charged between 20% and 80% most days.

Common EV Questions

Most batteries last between 100,000 and 200,000 miles, depending on the model of EV you drive. With proper care and maintenance, you should have no problem reaching the 100,000-mile mark.

Many EV drivers have stated that they save up to half of what they would pay in service and maintenance costs with a gas-powered vehicle. One consumer report states that the average driver saves up to $4,600.

Many EVs come with a battery warranty for up to 100,000 miles.

Most EVs get up to 200+ miles of electric drive range, and some can get over 300+ miles.

Depending on whether you’re using Level 1 charging or Level 2 charging, your charge time will vary. Level 1 charging will usually take all night to charge your EV, while Level 2 charging usually takes about 3–4 hours.

Level 3 chargers can be found in many public places like grocery stores and libraries. If you’re curious about getting an EV from Rallye Lexus, we can point you toward the nearest public charging stations.
